The most recent Construction Cost survey (conducted in the fall of 2024 by NAHB) shows that, on average, 64.4% of the sales price of a new home is due to construction costs and 13.7% to finished lot costs.

Government Regulation in the Price of a New Home: 2021

This study highlights the estimated cost of regulations within the price of a new single-family home. For an average new home (currently priced at $394,300), regulation accounts for $93,870 of the final house price. This study further examines costs during and after development, trends in cost fluctuation during the past decade, and survey responses from builders and developers.
