• March Permits Is the Data to Watch

  Housing starts and permits rose in March to levels last seen in mid-2008.  Single family starts fell very slightly but the decline was concentrated completely in the Midwest and off of an unusually high February figure.  On a quarter-to-quarter basis, single family starts are up 9% in the US and from 4% to 22% across the regions.   The pending home sales index came out today and it picked up 8% in February, returning to a level last seen in the summer of 2009 when the previous version of the tax credit was in effect.
